re:store the high street heist

Don't be fooled by the name, this is a positive project set in place to rejoice young persons and the wonderful talentful things we are capable of.

For those who haven't heard of somewhereto_ they're a lovely and incredibly helpful organisation set about to facilitate young people (here meaning 16-25 year olds) and show case the many talents they possess. Whether it be needing somewhereto_ dance, sing, play, rap, create, decorate, write, discuss, cry, shout (within reason) somewhereto_ are set in place to find you a place to do whatever it is you want, or perhaps you need to do. They're after volunteers here, there and everywhere and if you're reading this in the UK chances are there's going to be a chance, somewhere near you, to get involved. I type from a vacant shop in Northgate Street in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion. We've got many a thing up our sleeves to take over this shop over the next few months, I'm talking photography and art exhibitions, live music, live performances, arts / crafts and jewellery sales / showings, you name it, chances are we're going to get it and if you think we're missing something that you've got to give, then please get in touch we'll find you the time and space to sort it for you, it's just the kind of lovely people we somewhereto_ volunteers are!

However, as proudly as I say this all; I must confess, that we've got a long old way to go until we get there! It's safe to say the shop is looking tired and somewhat neglected. But don't fret, where there's a a space to fill, there's volunteers waiting to get involved and save the day. I am sat on a bean bag in the centre of this shop surrounded by busy hands removing shelving units, filling in holes, ripping up carpets but most of all cleaning, cleaning and cleaning. (Whilst I happily write because that's what I asked for, somewhereto_ write. Team work at its best I must say.)

Currently in the shop (from here on in upon this blog I shall continue to call our high street heist space 'the shop' there is your forewarning.) We have Gemma, my business partner, predominantly a sparky by trade but a brilliant designer in all things theatrical. Kyle a noise boy who likes all kinds of speakers and things that make music go BOOM and from today I've learnt he's also a top notch handy man / decorator, somewhereto_ do DIY, anyone? Barrie, a trainee teacher who's also a wonderful lighting designer and all round technician, who's fiancĂ©, Claire, is a brilliant photographer ready and raring to exhibit when we get this space fixed up. And then there's me, designer, manager and writer, as well as the point of view who will guide you through the up and coming months of re:store.

Watch this space.
